The Sharon Fire Department has opened a "Smoke House" training center in Sharon Valley. The training center is capable of creating blackout smoke conditions where firefighters can work in zero visibilty conditions to practice Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) deployment for saving trapped or in trouble firefighters and saving civilian victims. Different scenarios can be run to provide training in a safer environment.

The training center is also available for other departments to train in.

To schedule a time at the center please contact Carl Wilson, Bob Carberry or Tom Bartram at 860-364-5254

Burning Index

Updated Spring 2017:  We haven't had many days that the conditions are acceptable to burn. Our area is still extremely DRY. Two indexes must be checked - the Air Quality Index and well as the Fire Danger Index.   You must have a permit to burn - they are available for 30 day increments at the Town Hall.  There is no charge. You must call before you burn and have a valid permit.  For information call 860-364-0909

We are sorry to report the Derby has been postponed this year due to the condition of the road and our 125th anniversary parade. Please check back next year.

The Sharon Fire Department and Ambulance Squad are looking for new members. There is an online application for joining (see member application above). The Fire Department is looking for firetruck drivers - pump operators, exterior and interior firefighters. The ambulance is looking for drivers, MRT's and EMT's. Both the ambulance and fire department will pay for training and gear. It is very rewarding to give back to the community and be with a wonderful group of very dedicated volunteers.
